Caryn Franklin AGAIN @Ravensbourne

Posted on 15 November 2013

This morning I had a delightful lecture given by Caryn Franklin about All Walks campaign Mix it Up!. It's not hard to tell that Caryn has experience a lot in the past 35 years, since she first came to fashion industry knowing less about it, than I know now. We as human beings all have dreams and majority of the times it relates with fashion and brands. Fashion industry is selling dreams for us of how it suppose to be and we starting to think "yea, I need this, I'm not good enough. I mean, look at these models and how perfect they always look". Sadly we all at the back of the our heads know that those girls are not real, that this type of 'beauty' doesn't exist. Adverts like D&G did with military man and boneless nude female model don't send any positive messages and makes me think, what the hell the whole team of people involve in it was thinking?
Because of people like Caryn Franklin we could see changes, not because she all by herself are making it, because of how she delivers message the students and as well industry people to see fashion in different way and don't really think just about people in front of camera but same importantly about people behind it.
I use this little occasion and have my first photo with famous and inspiring person - one and only - Caryn Franklin. Maybe I don't look like in my prettiest but oh well...

Fashion Faith Backstage

Posted on 10 November 2013

A week ago I introduced you all to how it feels like to be a fashion promotion student and also mention Juicebox magazine project, where my role is Creative Director.
I wish I could say "Oh, this role is heaven and didn't cost me any stress". Well, I wish. Actually, all this previous week I wasn't eating much, just like clementine for breakfast, glass of water around lunch time and evening... To be honest I can't really remember if there was anything. Lost weight? Hell yea! But no one should loose weight in this type of way.
Our Fashion in Faith photo-shoot was this Friday, which included 5 models from four different London agencies, three amazing make-up artist and hairstylist and of course Becky and Nathan - stylist and one and only - Nicole - photographer. For the first time arranging shoot myself I believe input wasn't small all make-up artist, hairstylist and models that I personally found were great! We all had such lovely time spending the day together. Wish there was no tragedies and bad incidents and they really were there... They always will when you deal with so many people and trying to make everything the highest standard possible. Decided to share backstage images from editorial shoot and hope to be able to show you the final outcome soon as well.

Kristjana Williams for Triumph

Posted on 1 November 2013

A lot of you already know how obsesses I sometimes could get about new illustrators and their work. This time my new crush is Kristjana S Williams.
Kristjana S Williams creates magical landscapes, filled with impossible, exotic creatures by interweaving fragments of Victorian engravings with contemporary illustration and colouring. Icelandic born and a graduate of Central St Martin’s, Williams’ illustration work spans the worlds of fashion, home-ware and prints and has gained widespread critical acclaim. Kristjana’s recent work includes large scale mural displays at the V&A for the London Design Festival, a solo exhibition “Dyragardurin” at Outline Editions’ temporary gallery in Soho, a collaboration with heritage furniture maker George Smith and wallpaper designer Cole & Son, and commissions for the Chanel Group amongst others. She is a regular exhibitor at Outline Editions who showcase and sell her work through exhibitions and as part of their collection at Liberty's on Regent Street.

The day I found out about her was not long ago and I could thank lingerie company Triumph, where Kristjana collaborate and created adverts for new campaign. We all couldn't agree more that the most successful Triumph campaign was "Hello Boys!" introducing Wonderbra and changing the way women wear lingerie and most importantly the way lingerie made them feel.
Even though I really like the style of Kristjana's illustrations I'm not a fan of this collaboration. It's obvious that Triumph really trying to have the success like it was in 1994 with Wonderbra but looks like customers aren't feeling. What do you think about new collaboration between Kristjana S Williams and Triumph?
And the final bit if you agree with me that Kristjana's work are stunning you can buy her marvelous illustrations, cushions and scarfs here.

Online Stores Every Man Should Know

Posted on 29 October 2013

Quick introduction into the best online stores for real man. Since I moved to London I always through, men's fashion is strong and well developed. Sadly only know I start seeing young boys trying to look more like their grandpas and not wearing loose goose track suit and trainers. I'm so pleased to see this change! Here is a little inspiration where you could find timeless fashion iteams.

Drake's. The Drake's style, beginning with a refined English discrimination, had evolved with a touch of consummate French chic and a nod to the Italians for their abundant sense of style and colour. This aesthetic represents a vision of how English style is perceived to be, rather than the reality which today is all too often less inspiring.
Drake's ties, bow ties and pocket scarves are items, which should excited real fashion men the most. The range of them is unbelieved wade! Check accessories as well like cufflinks, braces, umbrellas and all the leather goods. Drake's doesn't sell cheap items, but purchasing small goods you'll have them forever.
Shop online here
Mr. Porter. Another one non-cheap but chic men's online store, which includes designers like J.Crew, Burberry, Givenchy, Alexandre McQueen, Lanvin, Paul Smith but most excitingly Mr. Porter has New Designers section as well. But this online store in not all about "come and buy stuff" it has amazing sections to make men aware of trends, timeless colour and shape combinations and essentials. Just browse around their online store and I guarantee you'll get inspired.
Shop online here.

Matches Fashion. Online store includes men and women clothing, but this time we are dealing with gents fashion. Again like Mr. Porter Matches has a lot of world-class designers like Valentino, Balmain, Kenzo, Lanvin, Saint Laurent and Tod's. Even the style of website is extremely alike to Mr. Porter's. What I found really great about Matches Fashion it's how it let me to explore different style of items and pick the most suit-full. Let say man is looking for coat, once he clicks on Coat Room it gives 8 different styles of it to choose from.
Shop online here.
That is all from me today and I just wan to say one last thing - all of these three online store are not for your purchases (only wealthy man could let himself to afford these goodness, but remember to get inspiration from it and be playful wearing small pieces of goodness and the rest of it could be high street fashion items).

Bailey's Stardust

Posted on 26 October 2013

David Bailey is iconic 1960's fashion photographer, who once said "I believe that sleeping with my models, helps to create better photographs". Oh well, I don't really mind how you, Bailey, created these photographs all I know - they are timeless.
Bailey shot his first cover for Vogue in 1961 and, thanks in part to a relationship - both on and off camera - with model Jean Shrimpton, he became known as one of the key photographers of the decade, capturing "swinging London". His simple photographic style and candid, often controversial, manner mean that he captures subjects in a way that no other photographer does; flattering them and challenging them in one deft click.

David Bailey will be the focus of next summer's major exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery. Set to be sponsored by Hugo Boss, the exhibition will be the biggest ever retrospective of the legendary photographer's work, and will run from February to June 2014.
Featuring more than 250 of his images, Bailey's Stardust was unveiled by the photographer this morning in London. Subjects including Kate Moss, Mick Jagger, Jack Nicholson, Jerry Hall and Helmut Newton will all be featured in the show.

Promotion Student Life

Posted on 15 October 2013

Every time I pop out sentence about my promotion studies it follows with question: "Oh, what is that? What do you do?"
Let me tell you what means to study Fashion Promotion for me and how amazing it actually is. Promoting and most importantly understanding what you're promoting is crucial, you always have to be aware of things that going to happen in future, you basically predicting future of fashion based on consumers and industry people bahavior. This course gave me better understanding about way are you actually want that pair of shoes and not other one, sometimes I think it's becoming more like psychology lessons, not fashion. Every day I can check what is going to be new not next month, season, not even an year - I can check what is about to come in 3 years time from today. What colour is going to be the IT one and how badly sixteen years old fashionistas will fall for it. Promotion studies gives me knowledge of what Zara, Massimo Dutti, Chanel, Saint Laurent, Prada or Mango is going to have as their Autumn/Winter 14/15 collections. Let me show you some examples of research and inspiration points to see how I work. This is your 2015 summer wardrobe ideas, divas:)

But the most exciting part of all this course is to be able to create your own magazine. Imagine, 2 months intensive work with your colleagues and after that you're actually holding hard piece of YOUR OWN CREATED magazine. I cried a little...
At the moment we all again have exciting project to do. I become Creative Director of magazine main photo-shoot. DIRECTOR... Oh, I want to cry again haft of it happiness tears, other haft - stress. What it means is going to model agencies, writing them and hopping to get high standard models. Same with make-up artist, hair stylist and wardrobe styling professionals. All of this comes together to one big final moment - photo-shoot to Juicebox magazine.
I have never been happier in my whole life and stressed but is all worth it. Let me tell you something you already know, London is know as diversity city full of everything - high end fashion labels and designers, new generation of creative people from all the best fashion universities in the world, heritage like know other country have and people from all over the world. That why our shoot is going to represent people of London.

Sometimes I think that people from other Europe countries will think "Why do you even bother to take photos of those weird people?" I'm bother because I believe that right promotion, marketing, understanding of consumer needs is important and people finally should see the beauty everywhere - any shape, any colour, any texture, any pattern, any race, any continent, any individual.
This is what this island gave me - understanding.
And here is the link to our first magazine issue so far.
